Woodland and Wetland: Puget Sound Birds

Seattle native Michele A. Burton has been photographing for over 25 years. Originally specializing in documentary, commercial and architectural work, Michele began photographing the natural world while on a birding trip to South Texas in 2001. She subsequently discovered that a strong technical background doesn’t guarantee success when photographing nature and began to refocus her energies towards observation and creative interpretation. Through a balance of technical and creative, Michele’s images have become more dynamic and evocative.

Michele is a featured photographer and essayist in the book The Wild Within: Wetlands of the Washington Park Arboretum, which celebrates urban wild spaces of Seattle’s arboretum wetlands. She has authored two limited-edition, self-published books, Woodland & Wetland: Puget Sound Birds and Patterns in Nature, a book of kaleidoscope images. Michele teaches photography, lectures and leads workshops throughout the Puget Sound region. She works as a consultant to businesses integrating digital photography into their work.

Michele makes her home in South Puget Sound.
